The Chapter of Light has indeed been revealed from the Tip of His Most Ancient PEN in the Most Resplendent and Most Great Ocean.
Say: This Light is the Light which in its Beauty has no peer in the world of creation, and it is the Most Beautiful Light in the Form of Existence of all the worlds of the Seen and the Unseen; and it is that Light at whose Dawn of Lights all the suns and all the lights faded away; and at the Rising of the Lights of His Unseen Beauty in the Islands of the Ocean, the beauties of lights in the realms of secrets prostrated themselves, and all the lights attained to the peaks of brilliance through the Manifestation of the Most Brilliant, Most Holy, and Most Handsome Beauty, which was truthfully the Beauty of Light upon Light recorded in the Scrolls of God; and at the effulgence of the splendour of the Beauty of the Brilliances of His Most Ancient Face, the holy houris and the spirits of the angels of love fainted: Those who are created in the secrecy of the realms of secrets by the Will of your Lord, who is the Lord of the Pious Ones. Then know, O sons of THE MAN: indeed HE is the Most Ancient Light in the secrets of the Ancient, and verily HE was Existent before the creation of all things, and verily this PEN is in truth the Powerful Witness to this Truth. Then recognize, O people of recognition, this Most Ancient Light of THE MAN, who is in truth Existent in the Foremost Origination in the Image of Light. Then know it as certainty, O heroes of Light, that indeed HE is the Hidden Beauty, and you do not recognize the Excellence of the Brilliances of HIS Unseen Beauty — nor the spirit of Jesus, nor the FRIEND's Ascent, nor the recognition of all the beloved Gnostics. O Beauty of Light! Then hear the Voice of Manifestation and step out from behind the curtains of the Light in the Most Ancient Beauty of the Secrets, because men are waiting for the splendour of the Beauty of the Lights of the Verses from the bountifulness of the Fingers of the Hand of your Bounty. O Thou who art the Thou, besides whom there is no God but Thou, and there is none except Thou. Verily HE is the One by the Lights of whose Most Persevering Will the Most Ancient PEN flows, and HE is the One who infused the Heavenly spirit into the Image of MAN. Then know Him, O heroes of MAN, and be not mute. Say: Exalted is God, who created the Pen, whereby the Most Ancient Secrets have shone forth upon the Most Great, Most Magnificent Tablets, and whereby we have again manifested glory in the form of the expansive Verses. Say: O creatures of God! Know God by God, the One besides whom there is NO God, who speaks in my heart; and indeed we write whatever is revealed from the Heaven of His Command, and we all seek the fountain of His Mercy. Say: Exalted be the God of angels and of Light. O heroes of recognition, know that we infused into the spirits of your existences, in all the Days, in limited measures; and it becomes no one to draw near to the reality of the Light of Lights except according to the capacity of secrets. And indeed we have been the Centre of Lights in all the manifestations of the verses in the kingdom of the clear proofs; so you should know ME, and be not of those who slumber. O welcoming men, know it as clear certainty: Verily HE is I AM, the One who is I AM, and there is none except the One who delineates this Light in the Scroll of Tur; and the Lights of the revelation of His Verses are completed in the days of the five years, which indeed have been fulfilled according to the numerical significance of the Word of INSAN (5), and you will soon know it. Then thank God by God, who created you and who proportioned you; and indeed I AM the One who infuses the spirit into your souls, and you do not understand. O My ancient Heroes, know then that which is in the Unseen secrets. HE is indeed I AM, the One besides whom there is no God but I AM; and in these Verses HE is the spirit of the possibilities, and indeed HE is the spirit who had been speaking in the hearts of the Prophets, then in the hearts of the Messengers, then in this Most Ancient Manifest Pen. In these days the Verses of His Lights are revealed again in this Most Ancient, Most Great Figure — the One who is MAN of the Seen and the Unseen.
Thank God, who has made the Image of the MAN the dawning-point of the effulgence of the Lights of the Beneficence, and who wafted the breezes of the spiritual spirit through the glorious Divine Mercy upon the Forms of the Personality of The MAN; and thus the existence of all the Seen and the Unseen is quickened. And you should thank God by God, who speaks with you in these Days.
END CHAPTER OF LIGHT
O Sons of MAN: the objective of the PEN of MAN in this brilliant and spiritual CHAPTER has been the stages of the dawning and effulgence of the Light of the Unseen Divine Beauty, in the form of the Divine Glorious Verses revealed upon the Tablets of hearts, for the guidance of the most ancient spirits to the Heaven of the Most Ancient Secrets. I swear by the Lights of My Ancient PEN: the Eyes of Existence have not seen such an oppressed Beauty, as the newest Lights of the Divine Realities held their breath before the effulgence of His Most Ancient Lights, and the Suns of the Unseen Lord in the Courtyard of His Heavenly Glory seem unseen in the effulgence of His Most Ancient Light. The hosts of the spirits of the first ones, along with the Realities of the Prophets and Messengers, then the damsels of love in the realms of the Seen and the Unseen, fainted from the Most Ancient Brilliance; and the servants of God are unconscious in the realms of heedlessness, careless and unmindful of the swiftness of the passing of the human days. O builders of eternal peace, wake up from the sleep of "a thousand years" and look to the Heavenly Power. Such light has permeated the realities of the atoms of the Universe that all the particles have attained unto eternal life and have entered the newest brilliant world; and this is the utmost boundary of men's recognition. END.
As to the attainment of spiritual eminence in the human world: it must be achieved in specific days and by a specific convergence of attention. The objective is that every time men feel the instinct of Remembrance of the Heavenly Beloved and the Eternal Love, they must sanctify their souls and bodies from the impurities of the world, and they must devote themselves to meditation and prayer in solitude, and practise it till they feel the quickening of the soul and the stirring of the awareness of enlightenment, like a new force of life; and after this, keeping the lofty human objectives in view, with work and patience and centralization of thought as the ideal, the objective will most surely be accomplished. The objective is this: that every individual, according to his potentialities, must stimulate and cultivate and develop, in his own personality, a relationship of spirituality, of spiritual consciousness, and of communion with the hidden, unseen, continuing and flowing Force working in the World of Light and the Atmosphere of the World of spirits. The ruling principle with the Manifestation is the fear of God. Blessed is the one who looks to this Light, which is the dawning-place of the Manifestation. The objective is that the sons of MAN must always devote their days or moments to self-purification, satisfaction, and individual communion with God; and in meditation they must free their minds and thoughts from all else. This mode must be gradually developed in the existence of men. The spiritual consciousness must not be repeated on conventional occasions, for the verses and meditative prayers are not for conventional repetition without spiritual conditioning; and although the spiritual consciousness may have spontaneous expression of variety in men, yet the meditations should be practised on particular occasions. Holy words must not be uttered in every place and at every time, except with the spontaneous activity of the heart, the conditioning of the thoughts of the sons of MAN, and on occasions of awareness and attentiveness and the detachment of the audience; for the repetition of the verses in a time of spiritual non-conditioning bears no fruit. As to the verses about the eminence of recognition, and the revealed meditations which have been revealed by the Pen of MAN relative to the grades of loftiness or otherwise: this is due to the different and various conditions of man. You, friends, must utilise them on just, reasonable, and corresponding occasions. For example, the Chapter of Light, which has been revealed from the Tip of My Most Ancient Pen at this Most Great Moment, may be recited on occasions of spiritual fast-keeping or a congress of Love, and for the enflaming of the recognition of the elect; and the ratiocinative, purposive passages may be read at congregations and the like. Your consciousness must be very powerful and organized; reason and thought must be in tune with feeling; and the good human search must be harmonized with wisdom and intellect. The objective is that the natures of men must be taught cooperation and orderliness, for the shooting up of one element of nature above the other elements may be the cause of the burst of genius, but it would spell disorderliness. The objective is that the perfect man must overpower his feelings, intellect, desires, and propensities, and must cause stable orderliness in the different existential elements. The element of Man is above all. That is: he must not allow his thoughts to soar in the heaven of reason beyond the bounds; he should condition the flight of his desires moderately, in harmony with the codes of conduct of all; he should liberate the bird of consciousness in tune with the understanding of men; and he should gird up the loins of human piety, tightening up in harmony the different elements of existence. He must be the experienced rider of the horse of his humanity. The objective is that different men, under the influence of countless elements, become the cause of their own disorder and that of the world.
Blessed is the person who lives up to the significance of moderation, reason, and feeling, in the light of search and advancement, in conformity with the wisdom of justice and loving-kindness, for the happiness of the sons of MAN. I have written these few pages for brotherly appreciation, so that you might turn to the heights of your recognition, and you might know of the unawareness of all concerning the fundamentals of the Words of MAN. Do not hammer cold iron. You must try the warmth of love and good teaching, keeping in view the progressive natures of men. The PEN now is silent. I beseech happiness for all from the God of the worlds.
